Jude’s room

Jude's yellow and grey quiltJude has the teeniest bedroom in the house.  We’ve moved across the furniture we bought before Scarlett was born, and the three pieces just fit the room.

I started making a quilt the month before Jude was born, in a yellow and grey theme – here it was just before I completed the bias binding round the outside.  Before we even moved, I knew that I wanted these two colours for his bedroom.

Fabric for Jude's curtainsTo match the quilt, I had my eye on a lovely pair of grey star curtains from John Lewis, but they were really pricey (£60 for the smallest ones), and I thought I could make similar ones for less.

I bought star fabric, blackout lining and pencil pleat tape from eBay for under £22, started them when he was around three weeks old and eventually finished them two or three weeks later – nothing is happening quickly over here!  I found this blog on Craftsy a great resource to follow as I hadn’t made curtains before.  My next challenge is taking up the living room curtains now I kind of know my way around a lined one.

Colours for Jude's room - yellow and greyAs with the other rooms, I obviously can’t just try one paint sample. I really liked both of these top two yellows (Valspar You Are My Sunshine and Craig & Rose Jasper Cane).  After trying out a few different greys and not being happy, a friend used Dulux Polished Pebble in her living room (the top grey in that photo), which I’ve decided to team up with You Are My Sunshine.  Let’s face it, it’s the better name.

Jude's roomThe carpet is about an inch thick and feels brand new, but it’s got some yellow marks on it – like the previous owners maybe stained some furniture and it’s marked the carpet – so we’d like to replace that with some grey carpet soon instead.  Hopefully it’ll be much better at masking the many inevitable stains that come with babies.

Apart from the carpet, we’d like to find a shelf to mount on the wall, and I’ve got my eye on these white and yellow star lights from Not On The High Street – I think they’d make lovely nightlights.
