One of the things I wanted to do this year was to make certain desserts from scratch. One was New York Baked Cheesecake (I’ve made this twice now, it was so delicious), another is profiteroles (which I haven’t managed yet), and the third, after watching many episodes of Masterchef, was pannacotta.

Purple haze
There’s this wall that has been the bane of my home and my blog and my mind, I’ve brought it up for at least three years, and at last it’s done.
After painting the tester of Twilight Mist (again, whaaaaat?) on the wall in our bedroom and disregarding the opinion of my husband (spoiler, it turns out alright), I decided to go and buy a full tin and a cheap roller set from Wickes and just do it. When I say just do it, I meant for Barry to just do it, but that didn’t happen, and it didn’t paint itself, so I did it as it turns out.
Testing, testing
This is the wall that just refuses to paint itself.
Following the slathering of a hot pink tester on our bedroom wall, in, ahem, March 2012, we’ve had to look at the crime scene every time we walked in our bedroom door. It had got to the point where we didn’t see it any more. And when I did see it one day, I painted over it in white to make it easier to cover when the whole wall was painted. There was probably a year between these two events.
Rejection
We put an offer in on a house a few months ago, it was near where we wanted to be (but not quite). We just found out that it’s been sold to someone in a better position. Unfortunately, there’s nothing we can do about it… I’m thinking it’s gone because it wasn’t meant to be and something better for us will come up. Continue reading
Ready to move in
We had another viewing this week (about time too, it’s been weeks), and this wall really jarred as soon as I showed the visitors through the door – it’s right opposite the doorway in our bedroom. Continue reading
Stop! Collaborate and listen
Everything has halted in its tracks while viewings come and viewings go as we try to sell our house.
The tiles that I’d so lovingly chosen have gone back to Homebase (after all that!), and my sneaky sofa yearnings have had to be put on hold (we have had this one for nearly seven years and I’m pretty sure I can see an outline of our bums). Continue reading
For sale
Our house is up for sale! I’m sad, nervous and excited in equal measure. It’s the house we nagged and nagged Barratts to reduce until they gave in, and it’s the house we struggled with mortgage payments for three tough years to pay until we were out of our insane fixed rate.
It’s the house we fell in love with because of the bedroom at the top with all the light. The one where we went to the showhouse six times with different groups of people before they’d even accepted an offer. It’s the kitchen project that we needed at a difficult time in our lives.
This is the house where we brought Scarlett after she was born. This was where she had her first bath. Her first bedroom. The garden was where she had her first unaided steps. Continue reading
Rightmove
I’ve been spending quite a lot of time on Rightmove recently. As much time as I can, given I have a toddler, work part-time, study part-time, and have pursuits outside of these things too.
It’s a bit addictive. Almost as addictive as that ridiculous Hay Day game (note to self, must check on my cotton; it takes forever to grow). Continue reading
Fresh bedding
There’s nothing quite like new bedding. I love it. I’m also more than slightly addicted to the At Home with Ashley Thomas range at Debenhams at the moment. Santa brought us some eye-catching Heirloom Ashley Thomas cups (which are also the optimum size for my cup of tea) and this beautiful Lorna bedding, which I had my eye on since painting our bed blue. Santa was especially generous because he also upgraded us to Superking sized bedding, quilt included. It’s huge! Continue reading
Up the wall
Despite my recent post about looking for a house, we’re still trying to make improvements to this house – let’s face it: it could be years. Our bathroom on the middle floor has had a hand held shower but tiles only a foot high around the bath since we moved in, oh… six and a half years ago. We never really used the bath until recently (to bathe Scarlett), but I always felt a bit sorry if guests used it. If they wanted a shower, they would have to sit in the bath – which seems something like a punishment – or use our ensuite. Continue reading
